Melanotan 1, also known as Afamelanotide, is a synthetic analog of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) that selectively activates MC1R. Commonly administered via subcutaneous injection or nasal spray for tanning. FDA-approved as Scenesse (16 mg subcutaneous implant) for erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP).
